Spring and autumn
Kirkjubøur is the historical heart of the Faroes. The little village is located on the south west coast of Streymoy and offers a stunning view of the islands Hestur and Koltur. In the Middle Ages it was the Faroese Episcopal See, which made it the country’s spiritual and cultural hub.On this unique excursion we will drive through Tórshavn, quite possibly the world’s smallest capital, and then up across beautiful mountains, past the village Velbastaður clinging to the steep slopes. The bus trip will be both scenic and informative. We will visit the enigmatic Magnus Cathedral, built around the year 1300 by Bishop Erlendur, the St. Olaf’s Church and the Kirkjuböargarður estate farmhouse (Roykstovan), a stave house dating back to the turn of the first millennium, said to be the world’s oldest inhabited wooden house. To round off the visit, there will be hot drinks and pastries in the atmospheric Roykstovan. Included in this bus tour is also a guided walk in the old part of Tórshavn.
