Temporary Import of Vehicles to Iceland
All travellers entering Iceland with a foreign-registered vehicle must register their vehicle with Icelandic authorities before arrival.
Before travelling, you are required to complete the official Form E9 – Temporary Import of Vehicles. This online registration is mandatory for all vehicles temporarily imported into Iceland and ensures compliance with Icelandic customs and tax regulations.
You will receive instructions and a unique registration link from the Icelandic Customs authority “Skatturinn” 30 days ahead of departure.

Kilometer Fee for Driving in Iceland
From 1 January 2026, Iceland applies a kilometer-based road usage fee.
The fee is based on the distance driven in Iceland and applies to all vehicles, regardless of fuel type, petrol, diesel, hybrid or electric.
If you plan to stay in Iceland for up to 30 days, a fixed fee applies. If you plan to stay longer than 30 days, an estimated amount is paid before arrival, and the final fee is settled upon departure. The fee is set and collected by “Skatturinn”.

Permanent Import of Vehicles to Iceland
Permanent import of vehicles to Iceland is not available without manifesting and custom clearance.
If a passengers vehicle is bound for registration and permanent import to Iceland the cost for documenting, manifesting and custom clearing is 64.800 ISK.
If process has been started and there is a request for a cancellation, the cancellation fee is 16.200 ISK.
