The Norröna Project

The Norröna Project is a joint effort by Stony Brook University and the University of Rhode Island, funded by the National Science Foundation, to equip the Norröna with an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) to begin a long-term monitoring of the northward flow of the warm North Atlantic waters through the Faroes-Shetland Channel and over the Faroes-Iceland ridge into the Greenland and Norwegian Seas.

European collaborators have recently joined the effort and have established a "Ferry Box" system on the Norröna to record near-surface temperature and salinity.
