About the campain.
In order to get the word out that Iceland is indeed welcoming travelers with open arms, the Icelandic government has created an innovative “Inspired by Iceland” campaign to help kick-start summer tourism. Inspired By Iceland is intended to help push Iceland tourism in time for the summer months since the disruptions caused by the Eyjafjallajokull volcano.
On June 3 an event called "Iceland Hour" was held with the intention to help make people aware that the safety, the infrastructure and the beauty of the country is still intact. Approximately 320,000 people in Iceland (and many more fans of the country all over the world) left encouraging messages of love and support for their homeland, and urged travelers to come experience it for themselves. The push drew more than 100,000 visitors, 1 million downloads of the promotional video and images, and 5 million Twitter messages.
Birkir Holm Gudnason , CEO of Icelandair stated, “We are extremely happy with the amount of positive exposure ‘Iceland Hour’ had within the foreign media, and of course not forgetting the tremendous effort amongst the Icelandic people. We look forward to the future of tourism in Iceland and for people to experience all that Iceland has to offer.”
